Yourtana Sulaiman is an Assyrian-American high schooler who was born in Al-Hasakah, Syria, but moved to the United States at a very young age. She is a member of the class of 2018 at Niles North High School in Skokie, IL.

Sulaiman is heavily involved in the school's fine arts and communications departments, including the theatre, choir, and broadcasting programs. She spends a lot of time writing and hopes to one day pursue a career that combines that with her passion for the arts.

Sulaiman recently performed in her school's production of Neighborhood 3: Requisition of  Doom at the 2017 Illinois High School Theatre Festival and was on the winning team for the Chicago Shakespeare Theatre’s 2nd annual Battle of the Bard competition. Both experiences have broadened her theatrical experience while simultaneously shedding light on various issues in the theatrical world, including lack of representation. In order to combat this, Sulaiman has joined other students at her school to form Thespians for Equity, a group dedicated to discussing prevalent problems within the arts today.
