Mack Avenue recording artist John Beasley is a far-ranging pianist, composer and arranger who has performed with music icons from Miles Davis, Freddie Hubbard, Dianne Reeves, Steely Dan, Kenny Garrett, Christian McBride and Chaka Khan to a stint with James Brown.
In 2017, Beasley’s latest release, MONK’estra Vol. 1, earned a double GRAMMY nomination and was described as “some of the most mesmerizing big band music of recent memory.” Peter Erskine’s Dr. Um record, which Beasley co-produced, also earned a nomination. Beasley is easily one of today’s most versatile musicians, balancing a multifaceted career juggling recording projects and touring while performing and writing for box-office hits such as James Bond films Spectre and Skyfall; and Finding Nemo and Finding Dory. He spent a decade composing for classic TV shows including Cheers, Family Ties, Fame and Star Trek: The Next Generation, but today directs TV specials and singing competition shows, including the juggernaut American Idol. Every year, Beasley serves as Music Director for the Thelonious Monk Institute to direct International Jazz Day global concerts, collaborating with Herbie Hancock, Chairman of the Institute. In 2016, the concert was hosted by President Obama at the White House and broadcast nationwide, earning Beasley an Emmy nomination. |
