Yorm Ackuaku works for a global banking firm and is currently based in Johannesburg, South Africa. Before moving to South Africa, she lived and worked in the United States, Europe and the Middle East.
In 2015, Ackuaku founded esSense 13 to raise the profile of African food and related ecosystems through the use of new media and interactive offline activities. In January 2016, esSense 13 launched the first-ever food hackathon – Accra Foodhack – on the African continent and since then has hosted education and business pitches aimed at supporting the African “foodie.” The company's mission is to create a community of entrepreneurs and partners dedicated to the African food space while raising the next generation of chefs, restaurateurs and food entrepreneurs.
A fierce believer in Africa’s potential, Ackuaku envisions esSense 13 as a platform to provide basic and professional-level food service training to underprivileged African youth, providing them with the skills they need to become self-sufficient.
